Wired modem troubleshooting.
Default settings:
IP address: 192.168.1.1
User name: admin
Password: admin
Connection type: PPPoE
Encapsulation: LLC
Virtual path identifier (VPI): 8
Virtual circuit identifier (VCI): 35
Lights that should be on after reset:
Power: On
Status: Flashing when traffic passing.
DSL: On
WLAN:On - might flashing as well
LAN 1-4: On
Internet: no internet light on Dlink wired modem
* To check customer is logged in into server.
Go to modem ADSL page and on the left side below menu check IE icon.
Internet Online or Internet Offline.
Lights that should be on when connected:
Power: On
Status: Flashing when traffic passing.
DSL: On
WLAN: On
LAN 1-4: On
Internet:No internet light on wired modem.
No DSL light after 60sec startup:
Checks:Microfilters, extension cable, VPI - VCI, phone line
DSL light on after 60sec startup:
Checks:You can click on internet icon and type in any website you want into the browser(IE) to make sure you have access to internet.
*If you do not have, go to modem settings and check:
Internet offline:
Checks:Username, password and other ISP settings
Internet online:
Should be able to connect.
If not check:
Checks:Browser, web page fault, network adapter configured, IP settings, DHCP, DNS, default gateway, never dial connection or firewall.
Can’t access router (192.168.1.1):
Checks: ensure browser does not have proxy enabled,network card enabled, connections, security software(firewall).
Manual set up and options:
Manual set-up:
Set up----ADSL set-up---- manual set up----enter PPoE, username, password and save
Opening ports:
Advanced----port forwarding----select name from drop-down box or type mane and ports----add/apply.
Parental control:
Set up----parental control
DNS set up:
Advanced---- DNS set up----obtain automatically
Firewall:
Advanced---- Firewall and DMZ
DMZ (unrestricted access to internet)----tick DMZ box----enter IP of PC
Change password:
Maintenance ----password----enter current----enter new----apply
